The Epic Adventures of Balthazar and Ganon

**Warning: This page may contain spoilers. In fact, it most likely will.**

3/24/13

Usually, I do a ton of research on the new Pokemon games before the release date. However, this time I did close to none. All I knew before buying it was that you DO NOT TAKE A QUIZ TO PICK YOUR POKEMON. That made me very angry. Very. Very. Angry. Why? Because that part was always one of my favorites: seeing what Pokemon I am because of my personality. It also gets you more into the game and into the wonderful storylines that those Mystery Dungeon games had. But NO. They took it away. Therefore, rather than using my real name, I chose to name my Axew Balthazar.
Anyways, I'm playing the game, and.... wait, what? So first I fall out of the sky and land unharmed, but then this random Tepig listens to my insane story that I somehow tell him entirely through gestures, he retells the story, and then says he believes me??? Ok... I think his damage has been brained, if you get what I'm saying. So what does he do next? He tells me all about himself and then drags me into a cave.
Thank you, Tepig. Thank you.
So I get through the cave quite easily, and we meet this really creepy Quagsire. Ok, maybe he doesn't look so creepy, but some of his dialogue just... concerns me. They say that this town's water is "special" or "magical," but I think it's actually making them dilusional. I'm making a mental note not to drink it.
Next, Tepig buys some land. He tells me I can give him a nickname because now we're buddies. I decide to call him Ganon, because even though his cheerful disposition and desire to help people makes him completely different from that video game villian, he's a pig, so therefore his name is Ganon. Then he ran around dancing. Joy.
That night, we set up camp and Ganon has the nerve to tell me he's COLD. He's a FIRE TYPE. So I just ignored him... or it... come to think of it they never specify his gender... or Balthazar's for that matter.
Anyways, the next day we finally go into town (or maybe I got the order wrong, it's been a few hours since I did that...) The first thing I do is go visit my good friend Kecleon. Kecleon and his brother have always been there for me in previous games, so it's nice to see a frinedly face-- WAIT OH MY GOSH WHERE DID THE PURPLE ONE GO... There is now only one Kecleon, and I fear for my life. Now there's a deposit box... Kangaskan (Idk if I spelled that right) got replaced too! But back to the whole Kecleon thing. There have always been two. One green and one purple. You know what I think? I think the green one got jealous. I bet he killed his brother because he was jealous of his bro's awesome purple-ness. It's the water, man, I'm telling you... don't drink it.
Later I met Cofagrigus (I doubt I spelled that right) and he is FRIGHTENING. He's quite insane, but he's awesome too, and I'm really afraid he's just going to strangle me... so I'm just gonna say we're buddies. Yup... *twitch twitch* buddies.
Another fun, random little thing-- you can run around and shove the townspeople-- er, Pokemon. You just run into them and they slide around. Weird, but whatever.

Ok, so now to talk about dungeons. When you go into a dungeon for the first time, Quagsire sees you off after telling you that he is not concerned for your saftety in the least, even after little Ganon explains how dangerous this should be. So we go about our merry way and into the dungeon.
I have to say, the dungeons look fantastic in 3D. They look less blocky and more natural, all while still using the grid format. There's also a much easier way to use moves-- hold L and press A, B, X, or Y, depending on the move you want to use. The gameplay is pretty nice, once you get used to the circle pad (though it does make it easier to move on a diagonal).
Well, that's all I've got to say for now (even though I got a bit farther in the game than just this...). I'll update soon!
